2020 Wrap Up
2020 is finally over! This was both the longest and shortest year of my life, and I think most of us won’t be sorry to see the calendar change over to 2021.
I do have to say: 2020 was not all bad. I started a new job, got engaged, and my first nephew was born, which were all really wonderful moments. I am also incredibly blessed that I and all of my loved ones have stayed safe and healthy during a time when so many people in the world were suffering.
This year was a mixed bag for my reading goals: I definitely read more than I ever have, but this was also the first year since I started doing the GoodReads Challenge in 2017 that I did not meet my goal. I was hoping for 70 books, and I read 68 books and listened to 1 audiobook. I came in just short, making 97% of my goal for the year. In 2019, I read 66 books, so I did still end up increasing my total.
My favorite book of this year was Know My Name by Chanel Miller. This book touched me so deeply. I am still working on my review ten months later, because I want to make sure that I get everything I need to say about this book absolutely right.
My least favorite book of the year was The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams. This book is a classic, and I really wanted to like it. Unfortunately, it was just not for me.
My preferred genre this year was definitely mystery. I fell in love with a few different cozy mystery series, and I am so excited to continue reading them in 2021. Next year I’d like to add some more nonfiction and audiobooks into the mix.
I’ve decided that I don’t want to set a reading goal for next year. I will absolutely keep reading like a maniac, but I’ve realized that I don’t need to make it a competition. I was so stressed out trying to read 70 books before the end of the year; I didn’t even have time to write reviews for all of the books I read! For 2021, I hope to spend more time working on my blog and actually relaxing when I read.
Personally, next year I am looking forward to learning some new crafts, getting married, and (fingers crossed) being able to go on vacation!
Thank you everyone for reading along with me through another year! I hope that next year I can continue to provide you with more regularly scheduled book reviews and recommendations. I appreciate you taking time out of this exceptional year to see what I have to say about my favorite topic - it truly means so much to me.
2020 was certainly one for the books (you didn’t think I’d end the year without a terrible pun, did you?!) and I am so excited for all that is in store for 2021!
