According to the publisher, "When America won the Revolutionary War, its people offered General George Washington a crown. Two and a half centuries later, the House of Washington still sits on the throne.

As Princess Beatrice gets closer to becoming America's first queen regnant, the duty she has embraced her entire life suddenly feels stifling.

Nobody cares about the spare except when she's breaking the rules, so Princess Samantha doesn't care much about anything, either . . . except the one boy who is distinctly off-limits to her.

And then there's Samantha's twin, Prince Jefferson. If he'd been born a generation earlier, he would have stood first in line for the throne, but the new laws of succession make him third. Most of America adores their devastatingly handsome prince . . . but two very different girls are vying to capture his heart."

American Royals introduces us to a world in which the Revolutionary War did not establish the America that we know, but rather, has an alternate history in which George Washington established his own monarchy, rather than a democracy.

We are introduced to Washington's descendants, the modern day Royal Family of America.  They are very similar to what we've come to expect from the British Royals:  pomp and circumstance, incredible fashion, and wealth.  While they are royals first, Princess Beatrice, Princess Samantha, and Prince Jefferson are also young adults.

This book gives us so many incredible scenes, imaging the palaces that they live in, and the fabulous balls they would attend, but the heart of American Royals is the three siblings finding their way in life.  Princess Beatrice struggles with taking on responsibilities that she doesn't want, and doesn't know if she can handle; Princess Samantha deals with feeling like she doesn't belong; and Prince Jefferson must figure out what it is he really wants.  And of course, they all have romantic drama!

I could easily see this book being turned into a T.V. series, and I would absolutely watch!

I really loved this book!  As I've said many times, I am a huge fan of the real royals, and it was such a treat to imagine a world where America has our own Royal Family to follow.  The author gives us both the public side of the royals, which is what we are all drawn in by, and the private side, to show us that, at the end of the day, they are all just people.  It is an intriguing balance that kept me immersed the entire time I was reading.

If you are a fan of romance, drama, YA, royals, or celebrity books, I think you would definitely enjoy this book!
