I was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy from Berkley and GoodReads.  All opinions are my own.

According to the publisher, "Augustus Everett is an acclaimed author of literary fiction. January Andrews writes bestselling romance. When she pens a happily ever after, he kills off his entire cast.

They're polar opposites.

In fact, the only thing they have in common is that for the next three months, they're living in neighboring beach houses, broke, and bogged down with writer's block.

Until, one hazy evening, one thing leads to another and they strike a deal designed to force them out of their creative ruts: Augustus will spend the summer writing something happy, and January will pen the next Great American Novel. She'll take him on field trips worthy of any rom-com montage, and he'll take her to interview surviving members of a backwoods death cult (obviously). Everyone will finish a book and no one will fall in love. Really.
"

This is my first review in quite some in time, so I wanted to start off on a good note, with a five star review!

I truly enjoyed this book and I know so many other people did as well - if you are on Instagram, I know you have been seeing this book everywhere.  Many times I find that books that are so popular end up being a let-down, but that was absolutely not the case with Beach Read.

As soon as I started reading this book, I was immediately immersed and I couldn't put it down!  While you might be fooled by the title and cover, and think this is some fluffy beach read, you could not be more wrong.  While I do love a fluffy beach read, this romance was so much more than just predictable "girl meets boy" and "opposites attract."  Yes, it does have those plot lines, but it also explores life, death, illness, family relationships, and even cults.  You'll laugh, you'll cry, and I guarantee that you will find at least something in here that really speaks to you.

There are tons of funny, light moments throughout the book, but there are also incredibly moving scenes.  You'll cheer when the two protagonists get the hook-up they deserve; Your heart will break when January realizes that the strong family dynamic she bases her identity on is actually smoke and mirrors.

If you really want me to be fair and come up with something to criticize, I guess I could say that the title could be misleading.  Maybe you want something to read poolside that you can breeze through and immediately forget; this book would not be what you are looking for.

Outside of that scenario, I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes Drama, Romance, or Women's Fiction.  I was immediately immersed in this book and finished it in record time!  It's not too late to get started on your summer reading, and this book is the perfect starting point!
