- They are going to be quick, easy reads - I’m sure whatever you were reading in Elementary or Middle school is below your current reading level, so you are likely to fly through your old favorites in no time.
- You’ll get to experience the book from a new perspective - We are all in completely different places in our lives as adults than we were at age 5, 10, or 15. We’ve had different experiences that can help shape the media we consume in different ways. You might re-read an old favorite and see it in a totally new light.
- You’ll find things you missed the first time around - A lot of the media that is out there for children has special nods to adults, whether it be a joke kids might not understand or references to other works that you weren’t familiar with as a kid. I can almost guarantee that you’ll notice something new in your second round of reading.
- You might find other works by the same author - When we’re young, what we read tends to be dictated by school assignments. As an adult, you’ll have the chance to browse other books while seeking out the book you want to re-read. You might find another book by the same author that you enjoy just as much!
- It’s like coming home - Personally, I find there is nothing more comforting than re-reading a favorite book. The characters are familiar and I don’t have to worry about what will happen because I already know the plot. When I’m really stressed, I love to read Nancy Drew books; Nancy feels like an old friend and I know she always saves the day. When things in my life feel unsteady, I can sit with my book and have the same sense of comfort I did when I originally read the book in my childhood bedroom.
