The Books Your Favorite Horror Movies Are Based On, Just In Time For Halloween
If you even vaguely consider yourself to be 'a reader,' at some point in your life, you have most likely uttered the phrase, "the book was better." As readers, we know that this is almost universally true.
In honor of the best day of the year, I've put together a list of books that your favorite scary movies are based on, so you can spend your whole Halloween season telling all your friends how much better the book versions of horror classics are than the films!
The obvious starting point here is the master, Stephen King. Honestly, I could dedicate this entire list to his work, but that wouldn't be much fun. Instead, I'll list my personal favorites:
The Shining
Carrie
IT
I feel like it's only fair to disclose that I am far too terrified of clowns to see the new version of this movie that recently came out - I'll stick with the 90's mini-series.
We also have some obvious classics:
Dracula
Frankenstein
The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
While I was researching, I found some movies that I had no idea were based on books:
Jaws
Psycho
The Amityville Horror
For fans of The Hunger Games, many people think that Suzanne Collins based her books off another, much darker book, Battle Royale.
The Haunting of Hill House was just released today as a Netflix original series. While it's not exactly a movie, I read the book last year and have been looking forward to the Netflix version!
I hope you can find something you like from this list. If I missed your favorite, let me know if the comments!
