Five Tips for National Library Week

National Library Week starts tomorrow, April 9th and runs until April 15th.  In my opinion, every week should be National Library Week, so here are five tips to keep the party going all year long:

  1. Don't be a jerk - return your books when they're due, and if you can't, make sure you pay the fines in a timely fashion.  The library only works if all the books eventually come back.
  2. Request new books - most library websites have the option to request new books.  Ultimately, the library is there to serve you and your community.  You'll be a help to the librarians by letting them know what books are popular.  If you're interested in a book, most likely other people are too.
  3. Consider donating your old books to your local library - check with your local library to see exactly what their donation policies are, but pretty much all libraries accept gently used books.
  4. Introduce kids to the library - whether you're a teacher, a parent, aunt/uncle, or avid babysitter, let the kids in your life know about the wonders of your library.  Organize a field trip or offer to take the kids in your family off their parents' hands for an hour or two and let them pick out a few books to bring home.
  5. Help the elderly people in your life - sometimes our older friends and family are no longer able to drive, but that doesn't stop them from wanting to read.  Offer to take them back and forth to the library, or check out and return a few books on their behalf.
Bonus tip: I’ll be giving away a different book each day for the coming week on Instagram. You can use the link on the left or search by my username “blondebibliotaph” to enter to win!
